just picked up a new plant from the fish store, and its got one of those little plastic 'pots' on the bottom of it. do i need to take that off before putting it in my tank or do i keep it on?

The rock wool is a pain to get off - I suggest tweezers and give the root ball several good shakes in a bucket of water afterwards to get loose fibers.
