Anyone have any experience with them?

From Hawaiian waters and pretty much like any other pygmy angel. Hardy and eats well after acclimated. It should have a lot of passageways to swim through to provide cover and will appreciate places to hide.

They're awesome fish. They are supposedly a bit more difficult to keep then other centropyge angels, like the coral beauty or flame. They grow a little larger than the coral beauty and can reach about 5 inches, maybe a little more. Any angel in a reef can be risky, but they are not known coral nippers like the lemonpeel angel.:)

Would one do okay in a FOWLR 30 gallon breeder tank for about a year?

Other tankmates would include: well, take a quick look at my signature below. :)

Every potter's I've encountered does well and tend to have voracious appetites. I don't understand why they are said to be more difficult. Ask the LFS to feed them so you can see them eat and pick one that eats well and you should be fine.

i think i might get a Potter.

Most Potter's that I've seen do well also, but IME can be a tad more difficult to get eating than, say, a coral beauty (I worked for a great LFS for a time). The literature I have read supports this. That's the only reason for my comments, not to undermine your experiences.

Pallen, I'd say that 30 gallons is a minimum tank size for this fish; however, your post suggests a future upgrade.:) Most of the Potter's you see at the LFS IME are 3 inches or less, so I think one would do fine in a 30 breeder for a while... of course, not as an adult though. Go for it, if you plan on an upgrade. The angel should do fine with the other fish and inverts you have.

Cool. I figured it was minimum tank size. Pretty much all dwarf angels have a 30 gallon min size.

In the future I may upgrade my tank or I'm moving back to Hawaii from New Jersey so I'd have to get rid of all 3 of my tanks at that point. hehe. My plan at the moment is to only have my SW tank for another year and then see where life leads me.

thanks for your help

I always thought it was a minimum of 30 too, but I disagree now. Other than the smaller pygmy angels like the c. argi and c. acanthops, most won't do well in a 30g for their entire lives. These fish needs lots of room to swim around and graze in their tanks. Since you are going to upgrade, you probably can keep one in a 30g for a year. It will be enough time for them to grow and age before they will outfit the tank.

Would it be okay to put a clownfish OR a Royal Gramma and a potters Angel in my tank at more or less the same time?

since I want to cut down on aggression I figured I may add the clownfish a day or two before the potter angel

Do you think my tank can handle the bioload all at once?
