When you clean your tank and pour water in is it sapposed to get really cloudy? Or just do it slowly?

I do mine really slowely for 2 reasons. 1.) because it does not get cloudy. 2.) so that the temperature of the changing water does not shock the inverts. But this is just me. I am really new too so perhaps people have other, better suggestions.

A way i make sure the salt is mixed is put the water in an empty 10 gal tank then put the salt in slowely. Whaile this is happening i have a small powerhead running in the tank i am mixing the salt with. They are cheap around $12 and work well. I also stir the salt. I keep the powerhead running till i add the water 10 hours later. There is never any cloudyness when i do add water this way. I should be more specific. It is an underwater filter that gives flow kind of like a powerhead.

I meant it gets cloudy as in it hits the sand. I let it mix for about a day

Pump it in as in with some sort of siphon?

No as in a powerhead or water pump

when i pour water into my tank it alsoclouds up, this is from calcium powder (i think it is calcium) from the sand at the bottom. if you didn't wash the sand before putting it in your tank then it is probably the same reason.

i found a way around it, i pour the new water slowly into the top of my filter, (it has a lid that makes this easy). this way, any undissolved salt crystals stay in the filter til they dissolve.

if this is not possiblr, i suggest pouring the water slowly into the area with most water flow, then the new water gets circulated quickly, and it won't be too much of a difference in temp. if there is clouding still, don't worry, it should completely settle over a few hours, my fish don't seem to mind, and it's a substance that's in the tank already, so it wont hurt them.

hope this helps! :)

dont ever add the new saltwater if there are any crystals left...if there is u arent mixing it right and it can cause long term problems later on.
i mix the water, let it sit for most of the day, then mix it again, and make sure there are not any crystals i can see, so i guess im just overly careful... thanks though, i'll make sure it's always all dissolved :)
