i bought a power compact with the intention of setting up a salt water aquarium my budget has been reduced so now i m thinking of setting up a fw planted aquarium the light i purchased is half antic half daylight im wondering if that spectrum will work or should i buy full daylight i know full daylight would be better but i dont want to shell out money for differnt bulbs

You might see if you could exchange the bulbs for credit. They're really not the right spectrum for plants. Folks have reported using them and getting growth, but they won't be nearly as efficient as bulbs in the 4000k to 7000k area.

Appearance is a much more subjective issue. Personally I think the extreme coolness of the reef lamps isn't going to give you the best colors for plants, but I know there are folks who prefer the cooler colors visually.
