Power filters, how good are they really?

the peguin filter has the larger slot because the ysell a media container for them i bought 2 for my peg,350, they hold carbon or any thing smaller.. i also use the fosters and smith clam shells, and put filter batting in them with or without carbon.. i don't like the peguin filters lets too much stuff thru..

just use the plastic and add the filtering media of your choice..

would it be worthwhile to tear apart the cartridges, remove the carbon, and turn one of them into a fine filter cartridge with the use of some fine filter foam or something?

I'd cut the filter apart down to the frame, slide a pantyhose leg over it, tie off the top -n- bottom. Great water polishing filter. You can get a bunch of filters outa a $2 pair of hose... always rinse well of course. Cheap enough to cut off and replace frequently. You can even put loose media...carbon/ammo-carb, etc inside if you want...though it will all pool in the bottom.

Those media baskets are pretty nice. And they actually fit in the provided slot, unlike the main filter basket that for some reason you have to stuff in.
And they will last pretty much forever. Good deal.
