I am using a Wave Maker (Wave Master Pro), hooked up to 4 power heads. For the most part, the power heads last a very disappointingly short time - I'm constantly replacing them. I read somewhere that only a few work well with Wave Makers but I'm darned if I remember where that link is - any suggestions on durable power heads?

I don't have one (yet) but a lot of people running wavemasters seem to prefer Maxijet powerheads. What kind are you using now?
magazines that are sent to me like fishsupply and dr fosters and smith have borders recomending the maxijets for those... i'm thinking about buying a wave maker are they good?! I read that they have two settings for feeding... which would be good that way the fish have a chance at the food lol.
I've used Aqua Clear powerheads and they start out great but go bad quickly. I also have a Profile powerhead - very weak. I have another powerhead that works great but it doesn't have any markings on it identifying it's manufacturer - it may be a maxi-jet.
I'll buy a couple maxi-jets tonight if they're available in town.
I have mixed reviews on the Wave Master pro. I really like it's actions but my unit was faulty and Red Sea ignored my attempts to rectify them. One of the outlets to the powerheads quit operating about 1 year after it was purchased so it now only operates 3 powerheads. It's feed cycle didn't work as it's supposed to. Still, I'll get another one someday or look for another type of Wave Maker.

they seem to be the only option other than a timed power strip... but i've been reading about the one you have and it says it has a dimming effect when turning the power heads on and off so its not just like ON.... OFF... ON its a gradual thing up to and back from fulll power which i was impresed with. I dont know if Id pay $120 for a wave maker for a 29gallon tank I have, I dont know if i'd put 4 power heads in there either hahaha... maybe I'll get it and force myself upon a 65 or 75gallon... (then i might just get closed loops.. hm....) Oh yeah, maxi jets are cheap online... they seemed way overpriced at my lfs's but so are all the pumps and powerhead which is disapointing.:scratch:
Do the wave makers just control (on off) of the powerheads?? A x10 setup with computer control would prove to be a great wave maker.. and fairly cheap.. not to mention turn you lights on and off automaticly also...

yeah i was just reading someones personal tank website for their 180gallon tank, i'll post the link when i get home, but he uses a x10 system... he can turn the powerheads off and on from the internet, its pretty sweet... i'm looking into that aswell.

I don't know anything yet about using a x10 set up on a tank but I do know a site that sells them... heres the link to that site... smart home
