HOW LONG ARE FISH SAFE IF THE POWER GOES OUT?

Not sure if I can put a time on how long they are safe, but when my power goes out, I make sure to scoop the water in the tank around every so often to keep it oxygenated and watch the temperature... I had my power go out for 5 days in a hurricane and all my fish lived

If you live in an area where you are likely to loose power, you can get a battery powered air pump.

I also believe I was told that the water in your filters goes foul if it sits there for to long, and you want to drain that water. I don't know for sure that thats true, although I would imagine it would be.

My swordtails survived 4 hrs without anything.

My friend's tank was wiped out in 2 days. Probably depends on your stocking.

I have battery powered air pumps now. Something to cause some surface agitation while the power is out. I just hope that no power outages occur during midnight. I can't sleep cause I'm thinking about the fish :grinyes:
