Powerhead putting out too fine of bubble.

Anyway of fixing this? The fine bubbles make the tank look cloudy. I have one on either side of the tank in the back corners pointing diagonally forward in an "X" type pattern. They are Penguin 1140's. I have the air valves adjusted for "minimum" air. With the air valves turned all the way up, they are way too loud and don't seem to make any difference on the size of the bubbles (there is a lot more big ones, but just as many small ones). There are "air cleaners" (the little bulbs with cotton in them) at each air intake. My Ph is 7.0, GH is 120.....lol. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. You don't use powerheads.
2. You do, but have never had one that released fine bubbles.
3. You do, but cannot see the fine bubbles.
4. You do, you can, and you don't care.

Anyone?
 
well, i dont use a powerhead. But i have a similar problem, when the water returning from the filter enters the tank. It injectes a stream of fine air bubbles. Makes my water always look like there are particles in it. Spent a week straight trying different filter media trying to get the water clear.

Sorry though, i dont know how to help your problem...
 
I never use the venturi attachment powerheads or other equipment. As long as the surface rolls and there is circulation (which there certainly is with two powerheads in the tank) adding air to the tank isn't necessary IMO. The only solution I can see is to try them without the venturi and see if that clears it up.

That would be my solution too. A mildy rolling surface will oxygenate the tank just fine. Venturis add bubbles but not so much air.
 
I have a regent powerhead- made by marineland, can't see how it'd be too different... Anyway, you could control the texture of the bubbles by adjusting the floss in the air intake valve. Loosening it up (taking it out and stretching it, lightly packing it back in) should give you coarser bubbles.
 
Thanks Analog Saint (was going to abbreviate, but then thought better of it). I'll try packing the breather differently and see if that helps. Also, from the other posts, I think I'll turn the air off of the one on the left. This is the side that's get's viewed most often. If just the right is on, the bubbles have diminished by the time they get to the center of the tank. I also have a bubble bar/air stone, but no, it is not near the powerheads. I use a powerhead in each corner to provide circulation from the heaters that are also in each corner. The airstone is in the center for decoration as well as circulation/airation. Can you have to much airation and circulation?
