Is there a way to reduce the waterflow in powerheads. Mine are producing a lot of bubbles and a very strong current, to the point my fish have a hard time swimming through it.

how are they set up in the tank?

are the just stuck to the wall? do you have prefilters on them? what GPH powerhead did you pick up?
that sais..a prefilter reduces some of the flow..you can also direct the flow into something to defelct the water flow.

how much structure do you have in the tank? stucture allows dead spots to form where the current is routed around..the fish can hang in the dead spot.

My powerheads have a flow adjustment control on them. Maybe you just need to turn yours down?

Here are the specs for the power heads:

Brand: Aqua-Tech
Mfg: Regent
GPH: 170 each

They are in the back corners of the tank on top of the under gravel filter tubes. I've tried positioning them in all different directions to reduce the amount of air bubbles/current in the water, and the best I can get is by pointing them towards each other. This makes the plants sway, and there's lots of tiny air bubble all through the water (like a salt water reef).

I can remove the air tubes to get rid of all the bubbles (not sure if that's good or not), but the current is still very strong. There isn't any sort of dial/switch on them to adjust the power.

There are a couple of dead spots at the ends of the tank and the fish tend to congregate there instead of swimming all around. If they venture out of the dead spots they get a really good workout or get knocked around a bit.

I will post a picture of my tank so you can see how everything is set up. I would like to have a calmer water situation, and I'm sure my fish would too. :)

Here is a picture of my tank to help you see how everything is set up. I don't have a very good camera so you can't see all the tiny bubbles throughout the tank, just the big ones coming from the powerheads.

Take off the venturi (air line sticking out of the powerhead) and you won't have the bubbles in the tank. Actually, the way you have it set up, it's suposed to put a lot of bublbles in the tank...

Don't have any ideas to reduce the flow, other than the fact that undergravel filters can be a major detriment if not maintained well and it apears that you have a power filter on the tank, so it shouldn't really be nessisary depending on the size of the filter.
