Pre-Filter

When I first started the pre-filtration bit, I used The tetra sponges preferably, but I just spliced on the Tetra perforated hard tubing to the canister tubing. But they have become hard to get. I never used the canister manufacturer's screen or grid on any of my prefiltration setups inside the sponge - why restrict flow or have to re-create a hole in the sponge - use what was designed for the chosen sponge.

RTR - As stated, the strainer that comes with the Fluval is necessary if you want the priming mechanism to work. That's the only reason I trim them.

Personally, on my other filters, I cross drill holes through the intake tubes to allow more flow and remove the strainer when adding a prefilter sponge. However you just can't do that with the Fluval.
