The intake on my eclipse lets too much fine material (mainly tiny shreds of java moss that are left over when fish decide to snack) through, and I'm worried for the impeller. Last night the filter was buzzing loudly, so I immediately unplugged it and dissassembled the impeller and cleaned the culprit java moss out. I tried putting a piece of breathable cloth in the prefilter, but then it doesn't suck up nearly enough water to keep the bio-wheel going. Is there anything that is breathable enough to let water through, but mechanically filter a bit better than my intake is currently doing?

my first thought was quilting batting, which I hear is the same as some of the filter floss, just many times more expensive... Anyone know if this would do it?

Some folks will rubberband some pantyhose stertched over the intake. I see it recommended a lot for fry tanks.
