I want a prefilter for my Whisper Power Filter models 10, 20, and 30. I thought about an Aqua Clear sponge. How would I cut this to fit? What size would I need? Does anyone do this and can anyone send me pics and instructions on how to do this? How often do you have to clean and change it??

Get a sponge for aquaclear20/mini its like 2dollars. Get an exacto knife and cut a circular circle tahts about as big as the filter intake. Take your fingers and yank it out. Put it on the intake.

I found the prefilter to do nothing useful but clog and reduce flow. I used an AC sponge and cut a slit in the end. I had to widen it out with my fingers to have it slip over the intake of my Eclipse 3g.

I was told on another forum that all I need to do is cut a slit in it for it to have a tight fit. How wide is the sponge for a mini/20? My strainers are 3 inches and 4 inches long.

Is this on your overstocked 10 gal tank with 2 goldfish where you can not do weekly water changes?

Will you please stay at that forum?

bishop -butt out. Eheim sells what they call biological prefilter cartridges, 2 per box. They're about 5" long with a 2" diameter and 3/4" hole. They fit over my Ac's, liberty, and hydor. I think I got them at Dr. Fosters as well as my lfs. You could try them. I use them to keep floating plants out of my filters.

Won't do that, fishpoor, at least for this particular poster.

Before you hastily jump to conclusions...you might want to track/read their posts. Accountability is required.

Other than that, I won't judge your comment on your occassional post on continuing events.

I had the same question

Did you mean that the AC sponge with a slit works better than using a prefilter?
