pregnant fish from pet store

no i dont think my filter is a HOB, its built into the tank, ive put a sponge against like you told me, will the sucktion from the filter have aenough force to hold the ponge in place or will i put something against the sponge,

in this filter the water goes in at the top and at the bottom and when it goes in at the bottom it travels up the back of the filter and meets up with the water coming in from the top entrance, i took the lid off the filter and the fry isnt there, so he's still down the back at the lower entrance,
if it stays in there do think it'll die?
thanks
Jonny

hey its that time of the month again she's pregnant, i have two questions

1. how long has she left to go, i can sse the babies eyes through the mothers skin and she's starting to get angry at the males. noticed the eye'e yesturday, think i can see two sets

2. when i put my guppies into the tank initially they wouldn't leave the swordtails alone trying to impregnate even the males, then they just concentrated on the female sword, now they leave her alone too, just wondering can these two cross breed?

i have a lot more places for the babies to hide this time they have a better chance.

ive attahed a pic of her you can kinda see the black dots of the eyes

Now is a good time to isolate her, if you can. Once the babies arive, remove the mother and place her back in the main tank. If you cannot isolate her in a separate tank, a tank divider from the store (slides into the tank and keeps the fish separated from each other) might be the answer. I have seen them at typical pet store chains. Here is an example:

There are also "hang on the side" thingy's that you can use, such as what the LFS hangs on the side of the tank to put your fishy in when they net him from the tank and prior to bagging. The one in the link below has a divider, plus slots to let the fry fall through and away from the mother. Here is an example: (be sure to scroll the page for a better view).

Im sort of new at this too. But i do know that guppies and swordtails are supposed (but I havent tryed it my self) to live peacfully together. What ever you do DONT put mollies in there. The lfs said that they could go with the other to breeds but I've found that they are too tank-domanant. I use a breeder net for my guppies and it works really good. I also have this fake grass stuff that I float upside-down on the surface of the water. With my guppies, I put the female in the net (its the hang over the side thingy that another person was saying) when I see that a spot near the anal fin is all black. Also, with all livebearers, they say that to maintain tranquility in a tank you should have 2 or more females to one male.(the more the better). I dont know if this help you at all but, I thought I would try. :o
