Hi

I recently bought a few guppies and although I thought I had all males, one of them looks as thought it might be pregnant. It looks like there is a gravid spot but it is hard to tell because of the markings on the fish (the back half is black). The fish is really fat too.

My question is, if the fish is pregnant would it be contributing to the fish's behaviour? She (assuming it is female) does not swim around alot like the other guppies but spends the majority of her time "mopping" in the plants, almost as tho she is resting on them for support.

thanks for the help!

Yes, this sounds to be about right, my females tend to hang about the hornwort during times they are close to birth; but also, if she is the only female in the tank she could be hiding from males. IF she is a robust swimmer during feeding time, I wouldnt worry about here. Maybe pick up a few more females and things should perk up there.

Here is a picture of a gravid female.

also as a friendly reminder guppies do far better in tanks that have weekly water changes. You will notice more fry and its actually a lot fun finding young fish in your tank.
What size tank do you have and what are the tank mates?

Thanks for the tips. I usually do a weekly water change of about 10% and a monthly one of 30-40%. I began with three guppies but one of them went to fishy heaven about a day after we got it.:( I did water tests and everything was normal, so I am not too sure what went wrong.

So as it stands, we have a female and a male guppie, three blueberry tetras and a cory cat. I have a ten gallon tank. I am new to this so I decided to start small.

thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated!
