Preparing for the big move! need help

In my opinion, You are stressing yourself out about the new salt mix too much. Coral and rock will survive and thrive in a wide range of parameters.

The easiest thing to do is take the salt mix that you intend to use and mix up a gallon and test it.Use a salt mix specifically for reef tanks that is Ca enriched. To make life easier, if it is in the ball park, go with it. I have done many tank transfers and found the freshly mixed salt to adequate for the job at hand.

Get the transfer done and then worry about your ca and alk after. Unless you have a tank full of ca devouring corals that will knock your levels down in a day,they will survive a day or two with a slightly lower Ca level.

it began today!

i got rid of my big ugly and very unstable desk and went to my LFS where luckyl they had a vert nice stand for only 50 dollars! its old but for the condition its in and the way it looks it was a steal for sure.

I set that up and then moved my old desk out and put the tank on the new stand.

In the picture where the stand is currently will be moved all the way to the right hand corner of my small room, the BC hood will be reattached and then the sunpod will be mounted on the Solana which will be in the center of the wall right about where that tank is now currently.

Heres what it looks like (ill be ordering the Solana and its stand tonight)

After reading aces thread i have thought of a few decisions and need a second opp for sure.

I already know i wanna do a floating reef for sure.. and that i want two separate rock piles running diagonal from each other one in the back right hand corner and the other in the upper left hand corner.

I was thinking of holding back on doing a quick transfer. I was thinking about setting up one pile of brand new LR and letting it cure and run in the tank for a month to get it in better shape. By this months end i would have a mp20 to run between the rock piles and in the back compartment have chea algae with a light over it.

Once the month is up and the new LR is in place and the MP20 is installed and i have RO always at hand.

At the end of the month i would then do the quick transfer which would be setting up the other pile and adding the fish. i feel like this would make me more comfortable and id have more LR and also id be closer to a chiller as well. As opposed to having more varying temps like i do in my biocube.. it would only go up and down for like a week as opposed to a month.

if you guys think this is stupid please let me know i was also thinking of only quick transferring the Two clowns and the biggest piece of live rock i have with their torch coral.. i feel like they need more room is this doable? and then following my plan from there?

That is probably the absolute best idea possible. The slower you take anything in this hobby the better the outcome from my experience.

Thanks ace, i think that is what im going to do then im tired of rushing anyways im sure ill be happier in the long run.. i cant stand my biocube anymore though.. always topping off water no control of temp do like the way the cube is i dk itll sure be a nce QT tank in the long run, things modded like no tomorrow

AUTO TOP OFF SYSTEM?! i have no idea it had one of these.. omg it came today and i read that and that just makes me so happy! in my biocube when im at work and it gets hot i have to leave the fan on it and by the time im home its to low on water and it acts up! this will make my life so much easier omg.

I've been using the Kent float valves for years. I use a small 5-10g resivior above sump level and gravity feed a 1/4" line to the float valve which I installed through the wall of my sump. It really keeps the salinty constant.

i have no idea how to go about hooking these things up. im getting the impression that you would just take the two bottles they have provided and fill them with RO and then place them into these slots (two wholes in the left side of the filtering chamber) if im wrong i suppose ill figure it out!

Bought the sand and RO/DI devise today.. its a Pure Flo devise. looks pretty legit so im happy.. beats going to the store every three days.. i bought a garbage can too just to dump it in as well.

Tomorrow ill have the tank set up, then on saturday ill be adding the NEW live rock and sand bed.

just need the PVC pipes to rest the rock on and then the MP20 should be here within 3 weeks tops!

Looks to be promising !
