My little aquarium recently began to bloom algae like mad, so I got a couple of Ottos, who have been cleaning it up admirably. I want to give them some additional food, as they don't seem to notice the algae wafers I drop in. I bought a zucchini, but don't know how to prepare it. Several websites have suggested blanching it, but my pots have all been washed numerous times with soap, so I'm reluctant to boil something that may contaminate my tank. Does anyone know how to prepare fresh vegetables for introduction ito an aquarium?

I use a small glass, put a slice of zucchini at the bottom, cover the slice with some filtered water and, finally, put it in the microwave for 40 seconds. I let the zuchini slice cool down to room temperature and throw it in the tank. It will sink after that treatment.
I just cut up a zuccini and put it in a freezer bag in the freezer then defrost it in a little cup with tank water as I need it it's soft from dethawing.
just rinse your pans very well after washing them, and maybe rinse them again before you use them for veggies. or if you're that worried, set aside a specific pot for fish use and don't wash it with soap anymore.
So the basic purpose is to just soften it up then. I'll give it a try. It's nice when you get your tank moving along, it's nerve wracking to think that you might drop something in that will kill or harm anything. Do you remove the seeds or leave them in, by the way?
