Preparing Water Changes

What one did you buy and where did you get it online? If I can get it for a price like that, I would have no problem, except I gotta hurry because the water level is about 1.5 inches below the surface :P

was that directed at me? i bought one from a local reefer that was selling on on our club forums on reefcentral
you can probably find a cheaper one on ebay also.
the RODI you lsited abover will work fine, i'm jsut warning you that the prices add up. but then again, how bi is your tank? you may not have to do too much filtering if you have a small nano.

The tank is only 36 gallons. If I take out 10% a week, that is 3.5 gallons a week, and about 15 gallons a month, maybe a gallon more or less. If it can filter that much water, then I should be find for about 4 months worth of changes.

Well I picked up the Tap Water Filter made by API, and when I opened it, all was there but the faucet adapter.....Is it really needed? Or can I just place the tube under the faucet and let it run from there?

Ok, I got one that works. Will add water very slowly so it is all safe. When it is ready, I can still just poor it right into the tank correct?

Well, lets talk both top off and salt. Sorry I confuse my self.

Atm I have about 3 gallons of water after the DO happened. It took about 45 minutes for 3 gallons to be filled, and it says about 10 gallons an hour, so either I did it too slow and it didn't work, or I did it slow enough where it surely is DOed and safe. Didn't add the water yet, because I am not positive if it is ready, even though it went through the filter. This is the tap water filter btw from the link I posted earlier.

For top off, I understand that I only need to add the DOed water, because the salt amount remains.

For water changes, I will have to add the desired amount of salt, and the ph will be buffered to the correct level, and leaving it out overnight will make it hte correct temperature.

BTW the water has a different odor to it, unless it was the bucket, since it was new and rinsed out once.

Thanks for the assistance. Did I miss anything or mention something wrong?

OK, no problem..In answer to your question, yes, you can add it straight away..On my new tank, i am plumming my RO unit direct to my sump so it auto tops itself off, but also continue to have it fill my water container..

I was thinking about having a top off bucket, and water change bucket. If I was to store the water in a bucket, would it be alright sitting there for so long? ANd should I pick up a powerhead for it?

I was just afraid of adding the water in, afraid that it may have not worked and Im putting death into my tank.

You only really need a powerhead and a heater for your saltwater mix container..RO water should be fine if left, but would not leave it any longer than a week..Just add fresh RO water for top-offs "as and when" you need to..You need to make sure that the tank is topped up because as the water evaps out of the tank, the salinity is will gradually raise, its fine, just get some water in there...
