"Pretty Tetras"

I deffinatelly don't think you should keep the Tetras with goldfish. Tetras are tropical and goldfish are coldwater fish. Even if they've been fine for months, it's like Orion Girl says, the tetras will be defenceless against the first disease that comes along. In this case Ich.

Seeing as there's only 2 tetras she could get herself a small 5gal tank and a tiny filter and heater and she could make them a perfectly happy home. Maybe get them a couple of mates too. :)

yeah I called her this morning and told her everything that was said on here....and I found out that one of the tetras died late last night....so she has one left....now just a quick question...I heard of someone metioning about this cure for ich that turns the water yellow ????? is this true ??? is there something that turns the water yellow...if so...she I tell her to remove all of the other fish while the "yellowing" is going on ??
 
I think these tetras would be too large for just a 5 gallon tank....I could be wrong....but like I said there is only one left now....so that should do itr
 
As everyone said, she should not keep goldfish with any tropicaL fish, like tetras, but if i were she, i would treat the whole tank for ich now. then, later, i would move the tetra to another tank. if it's really ICH what her tank has, take a look at http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39759. Best treatment for ICH in my opinion is salt. Although, goldfish are coldwater fish, they can tolerate high range of temperature, especially if it's for a short period of time. The treatment should take at least 10 days. My goldfish is kept at 74 - 76F with no problems, but yet shouldnt be kept with tropical fish.
 
so is this like regular table salt..?? I probaly sound dumb ... but I dont know
and how much would she put in the water ???

i 've used aquarium salt, 3 teaspoons (= 1 tablespoon) per gallon with my goldfish, but i guess it depends on the fish. the thing is you cant just dump salt in the tank, you have to add the salt slowly. i have a 30g tank, so i divided the amount of salt in three equal parts and added it in a period of 24 hours. Like, I put 30 teaspoons (= 10 tablespoons) in the fish net, let it dissolve slowly, then 12 hours later more 30 teaspoons, then 12 hours later more 30 teaspoons. Again, this was the amount I use. People prefer 1 teaspoon per gallon.
