Prime by Seachem

I Can't Wait Until I Can Get Prime. I Have Heard So Much Good Stuff About It, And My Cycle Has Killed Alot Of Fish.

I've been using Prime for about 3 months and like it a lot. Well, the smell isn't so pleasant, but everything else is good :).

I do get slight false positives with my 2-solution ammonia test with tap water treated with Prime, just a FYI.

I have used Prime without any problems. I have Seachem's multi-test ammonia test kit and I have never gotten a false reading when testing with the salicylate test. I guess they know their product.

i've been using prime since i got my 55 gallon set up.

its good stuff.

Prime

Prime is one of only a couple of products out today that actually does work on Cholrine and Chloramines.

Most of the dechlors out there that say they work on chloramines actually don't fully work. They mostly use Sodium thiosulfate as there netralizing agent. That works well on netralizing the chlorine but does nothing for the second ingredient in chloramines AMMONIA.
By netralizing only the chlorine in the water it is now releasing the ammonia and then you are unknowingly putting it into your tank. Which at a small scale is no big deal. But at a larger scale and be deadly.

Prime eliminates both the chlorine and the ammonia from chloramines.

Up here in Montreal (actually in Canada as well) Chloramine is not used so I can get away with making my own dechloranator. I don't have to worry about ammonia . I buy Sodium thiosulfate for $5 a pound and one pound of Sodium thiosulfate powder makes enough dechlorinator to treat 800 000 (yup that's 800 000) gallons of water. 25 grams of powder per liter of water for the mix. 1 ML of the mix is enough to dechlorinate 20 gallons of water. Roughly works out to 1 drop per gallon.
Not bad for 5 bucks.

While I just recently started to use Prime, I am already in love with it. I purchased the smaller 3.4oz bottle, and since it's so concentrated, I don't imagine having to buy more for quite some time.

I haven't encountered a false positive when testing for ammonia, but until reading this thread, I wasn't aware Prime would even cause such a thing with a salicylate test kit.

Easy plants = java fern, java moss,3 types of anubias, bolbitus and I recently added some crypts. The big tank is really not a good home for plants. The tank is 31" hgh which brings up lighting issues and my ability to reach the bottom is limited. next, I have medium (borderline on small ) gravel which is not as good for planting as the fine gravel in my other tanks the tank is also sitting on a ugf plate, which many would say is a no-no for plants. Lastly, I have a royal pleco, and three cichlids which won't eat any of the plants i have but tend to bump into things quite frequently right now the fish are small, and things are going quite well but in three months, my plants may have to be removed if the fish get abusive. the other tanks are much more suited to some of the pickier plants and some of the more fragile plants as well.
