Prisoners - War - Political Correctness...

Anyone ever think that no matter how much we 'respect' them that they will still hate us?

They want us to be evil. They need us to be evil. And, in their eyes, we will be evil no matter what we do.

So let us not fall while we are kissing their butts, hoping they'll see that "we're really quite decent if you take a moment to notice".

I'd rather fight fire with fire. Better to fall proud. Than to fall, nonetheless, groveling on our knees.

I've pulled scared, trembling, ethnic Albanian refugees out of the Adriatic Sea as they fled the genocide of Kosovo. I've sat off the coast of NYC watching it burn and smoke like a torch for days. I've chased down smugglers and terrorists off the coast of pakistan for the better part of a year as America still searched through the rubble of one of it's greatest cities for their dead family members.

And none of our butt kissing prevented 9/11. So why do we think it will help us now?

Well, I can certainly see both sides of the situation, as far as seeing a resolution, I'm blank. But while both our countries are angry at eachother, we seem to forget that living on the same planet means we must find some way to live with eachother. Whatever way we figure out how to do that is beyond me, but I'm convinced that neither of us have compromised with eachother. We must find a way to try understand things beyond our own cultures and instead of debating who is right or wrong in their beliefs, try to learn something constructive from eachother. As hard as it may be, it would be worth a try. I honestly believe that people of other countries should be able to choose their own form of government. With Iraq, I don't really think we gave them a choice, even though we may have thought it was right to do so. I think it would have been better for the people themselves to decide what they want, and then help them to get to that point. One thing to consider when debating different forms of governments around the world is that every country around the world has evolved in its own path. And because of this, there are certain ways of life they are completely unfamiliar with, and maybe they eventually will have a revolution in their own society that finally brings them to peace with eachother. These are just my guesses, but I feel that before we give them something WE think they should have, we should atleast make the effort to understand that their history is much different than ours and that they may want something a bit different than us.
BTW, I am not talking about the terrorists, but the general population of Iraq. They're not all violent.

1/3rd of the world's population is Muslim. The word Muslim does not equate to terrorist. It is a cultural issue. As for that "article" ask me if I care, etc. I found it shameful. Just last week I had a Green Beret in my bar who went on for quite some time about the middle east and how much he loved the area and the people- he had lived there for over ten years, he had lived in Israel, in Afghanistan, in Kuwait and Iraq. He was very proud of the work he did in those countries- not only for the good that he believes it will bring to our country, but for the good he believes will eventually come out of this war for the middle east. I have to admit, I was not for this war, and our president makes a lot of decisions with which I disagree, but what's done is done, and there we are. Regardless of my feelings on the war- this guy made me proud. So I told him thanks. Whether or not he did in fact make the world a safer place through his efforts is irrelevant. What matters is that he made the effort- he sacrificed his time and risked his life for the rest of us. To me that is a real patriot. People should care what we are doing over there (namely twits like Lyndie England or whatever her name is) simply in the interest of making things go more smoothly for the people who are giving up their time and their lives over seas, for the people who are over there genuinely trying to make things better for us.

I have served two sperate times in Iraq and have to agree with this statement. With my dealings with the Iraqi people that I have met or come across, they are happy that we are there and what the US is trying to do. You will never see that in the biased media.

The problem arises when the estimated 20,000 terrorists (insurrgents) are causing the problems and not the majority of Iraqis. These terrorists for the strong majority are not even from Iraq, but from neighboring counties. That is the whole reason why they are trying to secure Iraq's border. To keep more from coming in.

As for the article that nancie posted by Doug Patton, I agree with it 100%.
