Just a quick question. Does anyone know of any tricks or anything that can be done to make a prizm skimmer work better? My skimmer is working somewhat but am sure there would be something that can be done to make it work better, just not sure what. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bradd

i have a prizm and it works like a charm..... you should elaborate on what u mean by "better"... do u have the surface skimmer attatched or just hte basid skiimmer? cuz since i hooked up teh surface skimmer i have at least doubled my output of "skimmer scum"

I just have the basic skimmer...didn't get any of the add ons. The store where I got this skimmer didn't have them, and it was the prizm or the seaclone...I chose the prism. My prizm is doing ok...but most of what is in the collection cup just looks like dirty water....really runny. Is there any way to adjust the height of the water inlet on the skimmer? I looked at it and the only thing I can figure out is cutting the skimmer water inlet, or finding somewhere that has an add on for it. I am not sure what else to do.

The surface skimmer helps a lot, but is quite fussy about varying water levels, so if you're not good at topping off it's a hassle. Try to get it online, or make one from a plastic box (instructions online) Other than I'd say tune back the water flow a stroke, and give it time - mine typically really skims two or 3 days after cleaning. Also keeping the water level high, and the salinity up helps. All skimmers arel ess effective in an SG of 1.018 or 1.020 than 1.025

Thanks for the info. I will try to see if I can find a surface skimmer attachment for it. As for the top offs I try to stay up on them pretty closely. My salinity might need to come up just a little but not much.
Once again, thanks for the info.

Bradd,
I had a Prizm and it worked great. Try adjusting the waterflow so the level of water is 1/2-1" below the o-ring that seals the collection cup. You will need to clean it at least once a week as much of the crud will collect on the plastic at the o-ring and not make it into the cup.

Hope this helps,

Jon
