pro terms for live rock

Hi all,


i'm buying some live rock from somebody in the neighboorhood who was gracious enough to hold onto my rock until my new sw tank is cycled. it will only be a fowlr tank, and therefore won't have stupendous lighting. now, she threw some terms my way...

"Mainly coral and some saltwater grasses and algae" when she was describing her rock.

what the heck does all that mean? does this mean i'm in trouble with possibly taking on rock that needs incredible (and expensive) lighting? any help would be appreciated. thanks!
 
coral needs light, but algea is going to grow anyway, i take it is that she means by saltwater grass. If you haven't got the lighting then leave the coral at hers place instead of killing it in your tank.

i haven't fully purchased all my lighting. the problem is the hood is only made to have 2 x 18" bulbs, and so i got 50/50 lighting for those...but i think in terms of wattage i don't even have 1 watt per gallon (55 gallon tank). i know i have to somehow supplement this crappy hood, but i wasn't planning on having more than four or so bulbs i'll have to make sure.

in other words, i'm open to suggestions and if anybody has a good idea on how to have a reasonable lighting system to support this rock, i'd be very grateful!

I'd leave the one's with sea grass or corals at her house. Some of the macro might make it as dave said. There isn't a way to get cheap lighting to grow corals unless you find someone leaving the hobby. Even then you can expect to pay $100 + for decent lights with out a bulb.
