Prob. the dumbest question in the world...lol

The best thing and most expensive part of my CO2 set up is the reactor where I had to buy a pump for $ dollars. It totally disolves all CO2. I thought about the ladder method but had most of the parts here. I am planning on an inline reactor soon, now that I have a canister filter instead of HOB. The main thing I don't like about my system is that it is blue and big in my 55. I looked at alot of different DIY set ups and the one that was originally posted about. I just preferred the idea of the 2 liter bottles and the power reactor.

The ladder I think would be nice if it does dissolve all CO2. I actually may try it. I am going to stay with the bottles for now because the mixture stays active for a long time and the equipment was cheap. If anyone here uses the ladder system in a 55 please post on how it works.

yes u can buy the ladder on it's own. i bought my ladder at my lfs for $19 while the whole system was $32

If u scroll down u see u can buy each part seperate also, the ladder is the bubble counter/diffuser.

You should buy the one thats u feel comfortable with, alot of ppl like the canister cause it's supposed to be insulated and prevents large temp changes.

Check Ebay, etc., there are many types of reactors and many of them are extremely cheap. Also remember that the majority of the costs listed above for the DIY version were for the sugar, yeast, etc... so if you take that out of the equation you see how much cheaper the DIY materials actually are.

Also, the DIY recipe I use doesn't involve Jello, it's just water, sugar, and yeast. I've been getting high production for about 5 weeks now, and in the last few days it's finally ramping down.

I personally like the little glass reactor/diffusers better than the ladders, they're smaller and they can be hidden behind a plant more easily. However, my opinion is based solely on my aesthetic taste; I have no idea which one actually works better :) !

I'm using the DIY setup on a 3 gallon nano planted tank, so a diffuser would probably put my CO2 numbers over the top; I just send it through an airstone, and after this inefficient mixing my tank has dropped in PH significantly
