Wondering if anyone can help me with a problem i am having with my 29 gal community tank...

I have a bio-wheel and on the top of my hood on the outside by the filter i an getting a dried white substance if i wipe it with a damp cloth it goes away but comes right back the next day and only seems to be getting worse with time.

I almost looks like dried bleach is the best way that i can explain it any thoughts on what it is or how to get rid of it would be appreciated...Thanks in advance

...it's probably just salt. Do you put salt in your tank? If you don't start cleaning it every day or two, it will crust up reeeeal good. But don't worry, it's an easy clean.

I have the exact same set-up and problem. I think that it is calcium build-up from the water. Just minerals from your tap water.

Thanks alot for the help and ideas. I am fairly new to fish keeping and everything is going really well just wanted to make sure this wasn't anything harmful........Thanks again

You really dont have to use vinegar for calcium deposits. Just wet it down and take a toothbrush to it, or sometimes even a damp, warm rag will do just fine.
