What you wrote makes perfect sense. As I was viewing your stand pics, I was wondering how you ripped your 4 X 4's. Another way to rip the stand posts would be to clamp a guide on to the 4 X 4 and cut it with a handsaw.

You need to get rid of that catfish!
I tried one of those in my tank and the hair clogged my filter intake all the time.
