Proper wattage for a 10g?

yup lol. i remeber. its not the compared to tho. its 20w each. and i know theres loss due to its coiled and reflectors arent really anyhting special. more of a heat shield than reflector.

but it does look really crisp and really bright. white gravel with 2-3 1" plants and no background- cept for the white painted wall. so its really bright and clean looking. i went jungle on my 5g and now i like the less is more look right not. lol did some pruning of the 5g already! thanks again for your help with all my dumb ?'s.

but the actual fish stock i think adds to the beauty of the tank. 2 bright red swordtail, 2 black-white two tone panda platys, 2 black mollies, and 1 blue crayfish. it really looks nice. i wish i has a digital camera. id show you.

so with 5.2 wpg on my 5g- DIY co2 as well. alotta growth
and 4 wpg on my 10g. just the right amount of growth i think.

ooooo and off topic. but i started this dang thread. and your the MAN.

another ? for the master- whats the story with 2L and the tank- in terms of placement?

i know you dont want the 2l above.

with my 5g it was on the top shelf of a wooded regular store bought 10g stand. and the 2L was below on the bottom shelf. with the tank up top.

not the new 10g is on the top shelf and the 5g with DIY co2 is on the bottom. now the 2l is level and on the same shelf as the tank? is it ok?

and one last one sir, how long will regular air line tubing hold up to co2 in your opinion or expeirence?

I greatly thankyou jeffrey

yea i remember you asking. well its complicated? my 5g old setup with wild cray. he uprooted the fake ones to hide under.

him in the 10g. hates anancharis pinches it and lets it go. but theres plenty, plenty of hornwort on the top. and he has a deluxe mansion cave he loves.

blue cray in the 5g didnt really mess it up. he also had a small cave too?

and now the blue cray in the new 10g he demolished the green comboda. ate it i think as well. but left the water wisteria sprouts alone? and the hornwort i shoved in the gravel in a few spots. but i transfered his cave/lean-to as well.

so i dont know about the cutting plants to make cover?

but if it roots and the gravel is deep enough the both will leave it alone. also lead weights helped my wisteria stay on the bottom and root and then there fine.

I think your really only supposed to use the actual output not the "compared to". I thankyou
I have done some research on this in the past and actual output is only based on t12 lights or common shop lights. CF are smaller brighter lights than t12 or t8 bulbs. Watts per gallon is somewhat skewed when there are bright more intense lights available if you want to pay for them. For a example a 15 watt T8 bulb is not as bright as your 10 watt CF.

Brightness is measured in lumens, so you should compare the lumens, rather than the watts.

What FTwayne was trying to say is that in order to compare wattage, you have to do it based on actual wattage, not the "compared to" wattage. What the package is saying is that this 13w bulb puts out the same lumens as a 60w incandescent.

There are different opinions on whether one should use lumens or watts to judge lighting over a fish tank. Where the dispute comes in is that if you use a lumen to gallon ratio, you're total watts over the tank can be much lower.

Level is probably ok. I've never done it, but plenty of people keep their DIY CO2 on the same level as the tank. You shouldn't have any problems.

Let me know how the blue crayfish does with the plants. I want one but am cautious.

actually its best to keep it above the tank. next to or bellow is fine.

really? i didnt read that anywhere that its better to keep it above the tank or the airstone just at the bottom of the tank? like it could be midway next to the tank not on top? I wanna know whats the best way?

my 2L om my 10g died out and filled with fish tank water!
