A good tip I learned is take some water put it in a bowl or bucket with some sprinkled fish food and put some stones or decorations in it. Leave it in direct sunlight. Come back in a couple days and the rocks should be slimey. swap slimey objects with not slimey objects in the tank. It will keep a source of algae for them.
