I am beginning to buy equipment for setting up my 200g fowlr tank. I have already built the stand and am looking to next buy a protein skimmer for it. I was thinking about buying a berlin turbo skimmer but cant decide on whether to get the regular turbo or the xl turbo. Says reg is rated to tank up to 300g and xl up to 500g. I am a college student so money flow is minimal and will probably buy it with my xmas $$. Berlins are fair priced, but just wanted some opinions of anyone who has used them before or if you could recommend one to me.
Thanks
E

What kind of pump did you use? With a 200gallon tank I'd want a skimmer that can handle the water volume, and that would require a high GPH pump for the skimmer, with a large diameter.

according to http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/skimmer101.htm you dont necessarily want a pump that will pump large amounts of water. if you're pumping a lot of water then the water that is in the skimmer doesnt have enough time to make contact w/ the micro bubbles to skim efficiently. for a 200 gallon tank you would want to pump about 150 gph thru your skimmer. i have a aqua clear 70 which is rated at a max of 400 gph, but i have mine turned down and there is also quite a bit of backpressure coming thru the venturi inlet. i plan on getting a new less powerful pump for this so i dont break my aquaclear. i'll probably get a eheim 1048.

I would go with a ASM G4x or G5 if you can fit it. Either will blow away any of the skimmers you mentioned. You should look for a used one, they are often for sale
