Hey, I'm in the process of making a 29 gallon salt water tank which I will fill with a couple clown fish, an anemone and I'll move on from there with whatever else draws my attention. Could any one recommend me a good protein skimmer??? Please take a look at these options and see if you think any of these are any good--- or you can recommend one of your own that you think is good!!!! I am not looking at spending too much though! Thanks alot!!!

Any of these would work for me if you think any of them are good?

Also is this a good filter?-- http://www.fish.com/itemdy00.asp?T1...-6ED4-DD11-8F1F-0019B9C2BEFD&mr:referralID=NA

I can't speak to any of the protein skimmers that you reference in your post, but as for the filter. It is adequate. I have the large (2 wheel) version and I got rid of the wheels and don't use filter media. I have chempure on one side and from time to time I will run filter floss sheet in the other to polish the water (don't leave the floss in for more than a few days to avoid nitrate build up. HTH.

Is your tank (29 gallon) a basic set-up, meaning standard aquarium that you can buy at any fishstore, or is it of a special construction such as acrylic where it would have a large edge on the inside?

I would honestly pass on any one of those skimmers.
Something like these are decent skimmers and "cheap"

the HOB octopuses aren't terrible and cost a bit less too

The coralife super skimmers are a bit finiky and inconsistent, but can get the job done, even if not as well as others

Good luck :)

I really like this filter and I'v heard it works decent esspecially in the situation i'm in!!- can someone tell me how this works??? where will it be in my tank -- does it stick up out of the top???? i'm confused of what it would look like in the tank-- Thanks!!!!--- oh it says it requires an air pump I guess I'm out of luck then???? do all protein skimmers require that? i'm confused????

The CPR Bak Pak and the Coralife use a pump that is pictured in each description. The Red Sea Berlin uses and airstone to create the bubbles and that is why it needs an airpump. The RSB will sit in the tank and be attached to the back glass, so it will take up room in the tank equivalent to it's footprint. The Bak Pak and the Coralife will hang on the back of the tank, but you need to be careful about the dimensions (height) of your tank to ensure that it is tall enough to work with the skimmer you purchase. Seems that most 29s are about 18-19" tall.

Also, the Bak Pak and the Coralife will still have a footprint inside the tank for the pump and the coralife will have the added requirement of the "bubble diffuser" which is a box that sits in the tank where the return water flow comes back into the tank.

Hope that helps.

Would these protein skimmer fit and work in my tank?? I think i want one of these!

I know this skimmer is 18.5 inches long cause it says on the website I think that the height on my tank is about 18 inches so would this still work? I'm thinking some of it would be sticking up out of the tank?

On both of these I cannot find the dimensions for them anywhere-- please help.

ps, I know these are not very good filters, but a bad skimmer is better than no skimmer especially in a small tank. -- plus i'v heard that all of these work decently well if you set them up right!!! Thanks a ton!!!!
