Protein Skimmers

Ok, so with all this talk going around about skimmers I figured I would start a thread.

What kinds of things are important in skimmers? What are good skimmers for different situations and for me personally, what type of skimmer would you reccommend for a 28gal FOWLR to be reef with no sump?

Remora C Pro HOB Skimmer. Aesthetically it is not an eyesore in the tank and if you get the preskimmer it looks even better. I had a coral life super skimmer and it skimmed well but was an absolute eyesore in the tank IMO. The super skimmer took allot of modification and I could never get rid of the micro bubbles and the equipment took up half the back of my tank.

My remora just slapped on the back and skims like mad and is very quiet.

There are lots of opinions on skimmers, but from my experience the remora smokes on my 46 Bow.

I would also get the predilled drain hole for added laziness.

You don't really need one on your nano. If you want one, I'd first invest in a sump and then go that route. You'll increase your water volume, have a place for macro hopefully and then can get a skimmer to fit that.

My remora just slapped on the back and skims like mad and is very quiet.

I also recommend this skimmer. You can seriously take it out of the box, attach the pump, and start skimming. There's no settings to fiddle with and it's an absolute workhorse. It's also the easiest skimmer out there to clean.

You will get varied opinions of whether or not you should run a skimmer on a small tank, I say yes, because water quality is that much harder to maintain. Here's the skimmer I would recommend for your tank:

Just make sure your tank is at least 12.75" tall.

Cool, thanks for all your help. I might look into getting the hang on back but I would also like to do the sump and fuge thing. The only issue is that I don't think I have the space for it, but I need to get a new stand anyway so I might look into one that can accomodate that.
