Hi all..I'm new here..I've started fish keeping all over again after many years. I have a 58 gal. with two Oscars (Oscar and Felix); they were about the size of half dollars when I bought them, now they are about 8 inches..I gave them two tank mates last night..Two beautiful Clown Knifefish. They are getting along very well... I will soon be setting up a 125 gallon tank, ( can't wait)! Why do people get so hung up on fish???? Anyway, I want a Paroon Catfish.. I know, I know,, all the stats on them, but I still want one... I still have a lot to learn!!! What are Protein Skimmers for??? Do you like Cannister Filters?? Be back Later....

A little tip...Breaking your questions up into separate threads, in the appropriate categories, will get better responses.

For what I can respond to...That 125 won't do for long. You have a lot of big fish there, and they will run out of space quickly. I wouldn't add anymore, and would plan to setup another 125 at least for the knifefish.

Paroons aren't really good candidates for the aquarium, unless you can provide them with a pond.

Protein skimmers are used to separate the dissolved protiens from the water. They work by using very tiny bubbles forced through the water column. They aren't very effective in FW tanks.

What type of filtration depends on the tank and it's occupants.

True... In saltwater the very tiny bubbles occur readily, but not in freshwater... Protein skimmers need the bubbles to work..

The best canister filter for the money is a Filstar XP-3. (Now this is just my opinion..) I also have the Fluval 404 and it doesn't work as good as the Filstar.

Thanks 80gJoe..

I need to know so much about my aquarium. I'm fortunate to have found this web site. I will be checking into canisters and some of the other equipment you've told me about..Thanks!
