are there any protein skimmers small enough to fit for a 6 gallon eclipse by marineland? and if there is nothing, how in the world do i go about doing one on my own.
thanks.
Actually I don't think I would skim a tank that small, just do water changes faithfully and you should be okay........just don't get sucked into buying one of those nano skimmers I have one you can buy real cheap, only used 2 weeks and tossed it as a useless piece of plastic, the only thing of value was the powerhead attached to it.
I've been keeping a nano for several months with no skimming and it's doing very well (now that I said that all my inverts will be dead when I go home ) After a month or so, I started noticing a slight yellowing of the water. I used a product called PolyFilter (about 1/4 of the pad) and the water was crystal clear in a few hours. It is supposed to obsorb ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, phosphates and dissolved organics. I'm not usually a "chemical filtration" type guy, but it seemed to work, and I saw no negative affect on my parameters after adding it or after I removed it two weeks later.
The key to small tanks without skimmers is religious water changes with reverse osmosis water and a very small fish bioload.
well for now i am just planning on having invertebrates, not yet want to start going with fish.
where do i get reverse osmotic water. and do u still mix that water with the same directions for salt mixing.
i have been using normal bottlesd water from supermarket.
