Pruning back Xenia

Xenia

A really good website on propagation techniques is www.garf.org
They are committed to preserving reefs through propagation and give many different ways to cut and mount xenias (and many other species) to move on to other tanks. Don't hit the garden for rocks (made that mistake 15years ago, expensive lesson) as the trace metals can really leach out into the tank and kill just about everything. Best thing is to check out garf. They also show how to create your own "plugs" that are reef safe and can be used to pile around your xenia colony.

Thanks for all the info. I took my first cutting a couple of days ago and have put it in my quarantine tank. The xenia have a not-so-pleasant odor when you cut them. The cutting is still alive so far, but it doesn't look like it's attached yet.
