Hi, My tank is being overrun with mushroom corals (reddish brown w/blue spots). How can I trim these to reduce the density (I want to clear some room for other corals). Can I just slice them off, I'm worried about the bits that are left dying and rotting. Thanks Harold

The bits that are left will regenerate into new, complete mushrooms (and so will the top piece if you were to leave it in the tank. There almost like aiptasia, except ot quite as fast growing (and you may need to combat them like you would aiptasia).

However, on the plus side, you could probably make some money via selling from the regenerated clippings, and put that money towards the make room for more corals fund or for making your tank self funded.

I agree with dorkfish that you might want to try selling some of the rock back. If its on a piece that you cant get rid of, then try to prune.

If they embed in the rock they are very difficult to take out. The best way I have found is a razor blade but you must get every bit of it out. On the flat rock, scrape the rock with the razorblade to ensure its all off of the rock. Worst case is that they will slowly come back and you will need to keep pruning.
