i let the tank cycle for a week and a half before stocking it, and have done 1 25% water change.... 1 of my buddys works for an aquarium showcase store so he has helped out a bunch and given me a few hints and pointers....

Can you explain more on the above statement? Just letting the tank run for a week doesn't cycle your tank. You have to be doing something to develop the nitrogen cycle..? Are you doing a fishy cycle or fishless? Media from another tank?

all puffers should be in a speices only tank, they don't mix well, especially dwarf puffers they are shy and timid in with other fish and if you get a mean one, they will nipp at anyone who passes by but will succom to starvation if left with other fish for they stock slowly and other fish eat faster and they have to have blood worms and snails and other fish eat worms faster than puffs can even see them.

sorry, i let it run alone for 3 days with stability, prime, and neutral regulator to get the tank atleast somewhat prepped...... then added a few zebras into the mix.... let them swim around for a few days before added more fish.... its been a few weeks now and all is well so far, i had 1 rose barb die the day after i got him but other than that my tank has been doing well

i will eat you in your sleep
forgive me if i'm wrong but i'm guessing when the sharks get big enough (probably a month of two) that puffer is going to turn into a tasty snack/chew toy. could be wrong though.

It seems a pity that your buddy did not tell you how to set the tank up correctly. It is good to see you have a test kit but when starting a tank up you need to test more than once a week,Or I certainly feel you do,as your water quality change overnight.
The red tailed shark will become a bully in time,as someone has pointed out.
Why do people come on here and ask for advice and then totally ignore it,everyone on here has said puffers really need a specialist tank.
Please dont feel this is just you but so many people do it.
I have not been a member here long myself but have kept fish before,ok a few years ago,But I was not sure on a couple of points on the fishless cycle, never having done one before, so I read everything I could and asked, but then more importantly I followed the advice of someone who clearly knew more than I did.

That Dwarf Puffer is unhealthily skinny. Dont be fooled by thier size they are aggressive fish and should be in a species tank alone.

I have 6 Green Spotted Puffers in a 75 Gallon, they are aggressive and will eventually harass other fish. Mine seem fine with other fish untill the lights go out. I have lost a 5" Silver Arowana and an Albino Convict to my pack of puffers. It happened overnight both times.

its funny cause right now the redtail gets picked on by the rainbow mostly... none of the fish bother the puffer..... they are fed bloodworms and flakes once a day...

i dont see how he gave me bad info.... i have only had 1 fish go belly up since i set everything up and all my levels are almost perfect....

i do have a 20 gal that i am thinking of setting up so if the puffer or any other fish get too agressive maybe ill move them over to that tank
