Has anyone tried running a solar powered pump for their filter? I was thinking about trying it but even the ones I found with a battery backup wouldn't let the filter run 24 hours a day, so I think that may be bad.
anyone have any input?

Those are used mainly for small ornamental ponds in the front of a house. I never heard of anyone using it for a fish pond.

My friend used one on a small 100 gallon pond to make a filter. The filter wasn't super great as turnover wasn't where you would ideally like to have it, but it beat a stagnant pond. He just doesn't run the filter at night. Live plants pull out most of the bioload anyway. Solar power for anything isn't reliable enough unless you have lots of money to spend unfortunately.
