Sorry in advance if this thread is in the "wrong" section...

As I said in my introduction thread, boyfriend has a brand new (currently empty) 120 gallon tank.... we're STILL not in agreeance on what he should make it...he wants salt, I want fresh. Who knows how long it'll take to make THAT decision....

He just bought a ProClear Aqautics Premier 200 Wet Dry Filter with Prefilter. Question is..... anyone have recommendations for pumps?

Yeah no kidding, that's what I've been trying to tell him.... :argue: but he doesn't listen to me.

There's a couple of important things to consider when choosing a pump...
1) Would you like an internal / submersible pump, or an external pump?
2) How much head loss will it need to overcome? Basically, how high will it have to pump, how many bends in the plumbing, how many return jets / nozzles?

Answering those questions will help narrow down the choices some.

If you have the time, patience, and willingness to learn that is essentially required for saltwater tanks, please do not be afraid of it. A saltwater tank can be a very rewarding experience when the proper time and care are put into it.

The most important questions are who's tank is it and who is going to do all the maintenance on it? Who is going to finance it? Who gets the tank if you split up over it? Much less things have caused splits and if you can't decide now it will forever be a sore spot with one or the other.

1. Probably an external pump.
2. Don't know, haven't gotten that far yet. All we have is the tank, and the sump is on order.

It's his tank, he bought it, we don't live together. I refuse to do ALL the maintenance on it, therefore he will be doing some too. He is the financier of this gig. :grinyes:

a lot of extra time and money goes into salt water

Yes and with that there are more interesting critters packed into it with the options of keeping corals, and some of the most stunning fish you will ever see.but a 120 WILL have alot of money going into it for the initial setup cost. Does the tank have an overflow system?

Yesterday I came across a pretty good deal on CL, so we jumped on it. For $300 we got a 75 gallon tank, a sump rated for 150 gallons, protein skimmer, and two overflows, and all the piping & bioballs to boot. Also got a pump, but I'm not sure how well it works yet.
