Purchasing a canister filter

I agree that you could get about as many testimonails for the best canister filter as there are canister filters out there!

I use Magnum's for the ease of usage & cleaning...BUT I ADMIT THAT THE EHEIM IS THE ROLLS OF THE CANISTER FILTER & when you look around, they last much longer than almost any other.

I'm jumping in this thread about 1 month late but I thought I'd add my 2cents. I spent a long time choosing when I decided to go the canister route. All of the models mentioned so far are very good. For my 46 bow, I added an Eheim 2215. I found it on EBay as an open box customer return, unused. I picked it up for 60 bucks. So I got quality for cheap - very rare.

The 2215 is great. It is so quiet I sometimes have to lift the return up out of the water to make sure its on. I am also running an Aquaclear 70. I went 3 months before cleaning the canister. Water flow was not restricted but I just felt it was time. Probably could've gone another month.

I am so sold on canisters that I am going to remove the AC 70 and add a HOT 250. I love the water polishing ability of that filter. I saw my LFS using one and that sold me on it. He would move it from tank to tank every couple of hours or so. I plan to run it 24/7 except during feeding.

I would appreciate any comments on my choice of a HOT 250 combo with Eheim 2215. Thanks :)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I fixed the Penguin filter for now, and will hopefully buy my new canister filter next week...after I sort through all the comments and make a decision! :lipssealedsmilie:
The Penguin 150 on a 29 is alittle small, imo, rated flow is greatly reduced with media in the filter. as with most filters.........:)

hahah..I just noticed that this thread was posted to again! I wound up buying a Rena XP2 and I love it. :thm:
