Purigen and my AquaClear 110...

The 100 ml bags are a poor fit in many, if not most, canister filter compartments, which have more area than the bags. Same goes for the AC 70 & 110 HOB's, where you need 2 to cover the available space, as you already know. As to re-charging Purigen, thousands have done it safely for many years, and there's no problem if rinsed very well in conditioned water, several times if need be. But if you wish to continue using the bag just once, and then replacing it, I'd suggest doing so before the beads get completely black, since at that point, they will have adsorbed all they possibly can and be useless.

I'd replace the Purigen when it turns dark brown. Since you are not recharging the Purigen, definitely buy it in bulk and fill the media bags yourself to save money. I also preferred to use the 100 ml pouches (for the reasons you stated) but I did recharge mine so they lasted a very long time. The cost difference is negligible when replacing them every 2-3 years or so. Otherwise, they'll likely need to be replaced every 10-12 weeks in normal conditions. With heavy organic loads, this could be as frequent as every 4 weeks, so the cost could add up.

Thank you very much for your assistance, Slappy and Paul...I shall take it all under consideration!
