Need some help please. I got my PFG a couple of weeks ago and it has always looked well adjusted from day one. Just these past couple of days my PFG started to get some white spots (not maring ich) and it doesn't look like snails either.

Does anyone else have some experience with PFGs? I want to keep this one healthy.

Oh. Params for water are all within normal levels except for Nitrate which has been coming down and is ~20.

BTW- the polyps have always been fully extended until lately when the white spots appeared. They are nowhere else in the tank. Also - it is known as Purple Plume

Photosynthetic gorgonians are resilient and resist most diseases that afflict other corals. They can succumb to black band and red band infections, caused by the cyanobacteria. The genus Gorgonia suffers from fungal infections in the natural habitat, an extremely unusual occurrence for the marine environment, and not reported in aquariums.

This is a tough one Almond. I can't find anythig about whit spots. If I come up with something I'll get back to you.

Thanks BToast. I have been looking myself and going through all my books and can't find a thing.

Will this view work Reefscape? If not what in particular are you looking to see so I can get that angle.

What kind of light and flow is it getting?
Meanwhile, still looking. I'm getting nowhere!
Hope thats brown and not red algae on your sand, that stuff can be a pain.

Just picked up a wrasse like the one in the pic, my last addition to my tank and I love it!

Any update Almond? I am totally stumped as to what it might be. Thought of asking if they were snails but then noticed you already ruled that out.

Is that cynobacteria on ther sand bed? What are you feeding it?

Unfortunately a lot of gorgonians do not fare well in home aquaria. How much flow do you have around it? Unfortunately it does look like you have cyanobacteria on your sandbed, if it is and it's on your gorgonian then it can kill it. Also how much rock do you have in your tank or what extra filtration?

I believe that after a bit of additional research, the cyano is the guilty party. THe PF didn't make it and I am trying to work on flow and excess nutrients in the water. Will do a major water change this sunday.

This cyano is a killer to get rid of.
