purple looking stuff all over tank

my friends uncle has a sw tank and there is this purple stuff it looks like latex idk but i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what it is

Probably coraline algae. It is a good thing in a SW tank.

o cause it is all over his tank on all the rocks everywere

It is normal...and a good sign. Most scrape it off the front and side glass so they can see in the tank but any new reefer is anxious to see the signs of it growing.

well he's not new at keeping fish i just dont think he has time to scrape it off. its not on the glass really just on the rocks. what is the alge do for the tank

He doesn't want to scrape it off the rocks, as I said it is a good thing and people actually try to get it to grow in their tank.

Yep. I think the best thing about it is it out competes the other algae for space on the rocks.
