I Can't believe that THREE MONTHS after I first mentioned it, the fever is still going strong. I was back in that store a couple of days ago to see if they had anything new in the string line.... I found something better!!!!! "Cichilid Cave Rocks" These were in essence several rocks siliconed together (I think tying together with purple string would've been more effective) and coated with some sort of sealant. I've seen them many times before and in all truth are actually fairly nice looking as they form arches etc., but I've never seen them labeled as "Cichilid Cave Rocks".
So in the interest of furthering my fishkeeping lore I found that same vacant eyed staffer who helped me out with the purple string ordeal and asked why they were called cichilid rocks... Hoping against all odds that the answer would be as educational as the purple string question I held my breath as she formulated an answer.
"These rocks have been specially chosen and imported from some of our more exotic suppliers to be completely compatible with all cichilids, then we begin the painstaking process of setting them up in shapes that your cichilids will be thrilled to play in" was the mind-boggling answer I recieved. When I asked if the clear coat was on to protect against chemicals in the rock leaching into the tank she indicated that the rocks didn't have any chemicals and the ultra polished surface made cichilids happy. I complimented her company on the care dedication and foresight it took for them to come up with such a system and give them away for the bargain price of $95. I asked if they would work just as well for my German Blue Ram's and she responded with "While these were designed SPECIFICALLY for African fish, European fish would learn to love them as well"
By this point I couldn't help myself, I was trying to fight down a smirk that was turning into a giggle as I asked if they might have something like a rasbora river pebble on the way. At this point I was asked to leave the store  Some people just don't have a sense of humour!!
Cheers
