Python - Flow rate?

I'm looking into getting a Python gravel vac after reading about them here. My normal cleaning is a lot of trekking room to room with buckets and dripping everywhere, so this Python product looks to good to be true!

My nearest faucet is about 35 feet away, so I'll be getting the 50 foot kit.

How fast do these hoses run, and is the vac rate adjustable? I'm concerned if the flow rate is too high, I won't get in adequate gravel cleaning in the size tanks I have before hitting the 50% change mark. Also, when filling the tank, how do you stop water from going into the tank - do you just have to make a dash for the faucet?

I just squeeze the tube with my free hand to control the rate, but then I usually just siphon to the outside so I do not waste water drawing waste water out. I usually slow the faucet down so my fill rate isn't so I high that I need to make the mad dash (which isn't that fast at 53 yrs old)


They also make a on/off valve that can be installed in line that can act somewhat as a control, but don't close down on it during the fill mode unless you have the brass adapter at the sink. The plastic tap adapter is slightly notorious for spraying at shut off head (high pressure).

Even with the brass adaptor it sprays if you let the pressure build.

Mine came with the inline shut off valve near the vacuum head (purchased just last April.) You'll still want to trot back to the faucet as soon as you can, but that shutoff means you can safely leave the room to do so.

I suppose I'll give it a go and order one. Anything has to be better than the bucket hauling I'm currently relying on! I don't mind hauling buckets as long as my fish are happy, but I'll take an easier way out if I can! :dance:
