Can't have too many Tiger Barbs...

I've had a python for about 6 months now. The last couple of times I've gotten it out, the suction for draining was very weak. Everything seems tight, but it just doesn't SUCK the way it used to. When I jiggle the attachment to the sink, I can sometimes get a better flow.

Fill is 100% fine.

Any ideas of what happened or what might need to be replaced?

i am having a similar problem. I have checked all the connections to make sure they were tight. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this mystery. Also, I might call python customer support. I hear they are very good at helping you out.

Good thought - but nothing is stuck in the tube.

I don't bother with that piece for the vac/drain. I just drain out a window or door to the outside. Carefully inspect the venturi for proper operation or blockage. Does yours have the on/off coupling some place? It is another place that can get stuff trapped in it.

I use a combo of both. I use the python to start siphoning the water, then drain it right into the bathtub. I would check the seals on the python. It could have something to do with your water pressure??? But then I would think you'd notice a big drop in water pressure that would cause that.

I'm not following you on that one. What do you mean don't bother with the piece for the vac/drain? I use the python/venturi attachment on my laundry sink drain. Do you mean don't use the vacuum on the front end??

I don't think there has been any change in water pressure in my house.

When I get home later I will check every connection and see if anything is stuck. I haven't looked in the part near the vac that has the on/off switch. I try to avoid sucking anything larger than fish poop into the tube, but who knows, there may be something stuck in there.

I get bits of plants and moss stuck in mine all the time. They get caught up in the Vac flap, on/off valve and the drain/fill attachment. Check em all and make sure the part that attaches to the faucet isn't cracked. Someone posted about a cracked python once.

This means to take the sink adaptor off and just run the hose out a door to drain your tank... You will get alot more suction when doing a gravel vac than you will by hooking the Python upto a faucet...plus you will not waste water this way since you have to have your faucets on full blast to keep a good vacuum going.

I do all my tanks like this...run my Python out the door to drain the tank...then hook it to the faucet to fill.
