on the bottom of the t sink adaptor there is an open/close valve for draining or filling.as far as your tap water you should use a product like prime to remove clorine/cloramines.the python is great for wc,no more bucket's...............oh and you don't need water from your tap to get the syphon going,just fill the vaccum with water by dipping it down into your tank and lift it up, gravity will do the rest
