I agree with above posters. I bid three ways....first is wait and see if anyone else bid, then bid low. second...I'm gonna be at work or asleep when auction ends so I will decide what I am willing to pay and enter that as my high bid and hope for the best...third and my most favorite...the snipe!!!
For Ebay I use AuctionSniper. It bids for you up to your set limit in the last few (I usually use 6) seconds.
You research the item, decide how much you are willing to bid... set it up.... and go to bed. Check it in the morning. Keeps you from getting excited and over bidding. It will watch and bid on multiple auctions. :evil_lol:
sounds like they just bid more then you and it went to the next bid. you bid $40.50 max bid.... they most likely bid higher then that say $45. the price goes up to one bid over your max. no one has info on what the max bid you placed other then the owner.
when people snipe they dont normally leave time to put in several bids. so they figure out the max they would pay for something and place the bid. you said it was weird someone placed a bid that was over $18 from the max but you also had to bid a fair amount over that also.
A word of advice for people using aquabid. People who want to snipe tend to view the page a lot. If you periodically check the page view number, you can tell if someone is watching it. This also works very well in the last few minutes, when people refresh the page a lot. I use this method all the time.
Thank you for all of your knowledge!! It has proven extremely helpful. I sniped my 1st auction last night and on a species I have been waiting to show up again on AB for several months!!! Thanks again, will post pics in a new thread once they arrive and settle in!!!
