Q Tank

when its empty what do you do to keep it healthy for the incomming fish?

I personally have never had a quarantine tank and have never had problems. I do recommend getting one though. An easy way of keeping it healthy is to buy some 30 cent feeder fish to live in it permanently. Another choice is to see if the pet-store you buy from will hold fish for you which is what I tend to do. I just pick a fish on delivery day and put it on hold for a week. At the end of the week if the fish is healthy then I buy it. Just a way of not paying for a fish that is going to die or kill my other fish.

ArkyLady explained quite nicely at the top how to instantly cycle your QT tank. It's the best way to go, and the easiest.

I wouldn't use feeder goldfish to keep my QT tank cycled. So many of them are diseased and unhealthy, plus goldfish would grow, and eventually outgrow the QT tank. Plus, if you're QTing tropicals, goldfish won't do well in the temp tropicals need. And if the new arrivals are sick, you may kill your goldfish, which isn't very nice.

the best way I find to set up a q tank is to have an extra filter around with the same cartrages as the one on your main tank. When you get your new fish, or a fish gets sick and needs to be pulled out, all you do is pull your q tank out of storage, clean the dust off, fill it up, and place the filter cartrage from your primary filter into your secondary. The other thing you can do is run a simple sponge filter in your main tank all the time, and pull that out and use it when you get your new fish.

Yeah goldfish feeders would not be the best choice I was thinking more along the lines of feeder guppies. They dont tend to grow much bigger than when you buy them plus they breed like rabbits and can provide you with a good practically free source of food for predatory fish if you own any, or you can just sell them back to the pet store.

Well I have an aquaclear 200 for a 20 gallon, that should be efficient enough right, for a few feeder fish

yeah that should work, I have a Aquaclear 20(mini) for my 10 gal., a aquaclear 50(200) for my 20 gal. and a aquaclear 70(300) for my 45 gal.

I am currently looking for a good filter for my 90 gal brackish tank as I am currently using my 20 gal tank and aquaclear 50(200) for brackish water and it doesnt seem to be doing to well. I am thinking of gettign a Bio-wheel if they have a filter that works good with brackish water.
