There are a few ways to get some extra height for your plants, especially in the back.
The most basic way is to grade your substrate higher in the back and lower in the front. Several inches of height can be gained this way. Another way is to terrace the substrate. This can be easily accomplished by using rocks or wood to create a barrier to a higher level.
In a densely planted tank potted plants can be put in back and the pots hidden by the plants in front of them. If you have driftwood in your tank you can grow some plants right on the wood or use thread to hold potted plants up behind the wood and off the substrate.

Use your imagination. There are few rules to what you can do and some of those can be broken.

:iagree: Thanks for another great tip Q! Keep em coming :grinyes:

I think another great way is to put pots or a bucket of some kind that allows the water to flow through it but, possibly if you wanna be really adventurous a plexi divider.

smear it with silicone and then your substrate. Makes it look natural and helps elevate them.

Seen alot of reefs made that way.

another way to get some extra hight is to use floating plants!!!! lol

sorry, i had to!!!!!
