ok so it seems like most people recommend only having a heater, lights and something to create flow in a qt tank..

if i put some type of firefish or some other kind of hiding fish, isn't this going to make him spaz out?

also, does the lighting for the coral have to be as hardcore as it will be in their permanent home? i have MH on my tank but I don't want to buy more MH for the qt tank.. can I just get some PCs or will this cause stress to the corals?
 
Most people stick a 3" or 4" T shaped PVC pipe for the fish to hide. Make sure you cover it with something, those things can jump!
 
and its not really something to create flow, you really need something to hold bacteria for the nitrogen cycle.. Something like a bio-wheel, sponge filter etc. Its just like a normal tank except you don't want LR or Sand in the tank because it is a medicating tank.. A place where you can safely put chemicals to treat various ailments or to transition new fish into your own home system.

If you do have a sick fish and need to use it as a hospital tank it should be cleaned out after each bout of whatever with a strong vinegar solution, rinsed thoroughly and allowed to air dry.

but most people dont leave their qt tank up all the time, right?.. surely they arent cycling the tank each time they want to bring in a new addition.. i just figured the bioload would be small enough in your qt tank that you could water change to keep the params reasonable for the short time the critter is in qt?
