lol, yeah my tiel is quite a character also.

G, i suggest you read the first few pages of Mytoos.com before considering a Cockatoo :)

Hehe,, yah if you actually did mean a cockaTOO, I'd get her a toy instead.
They are very demanding birds. I had an umbrella and a goffins cockatoo. They are both in breeding situations now and seem much happier.
There is actually this silly robotic blue and gold macaw toy I have seen at a few toy stores. I guess it talks and repeats things or something.. cute. Haven't seen any cockatoo versions yet! Probably goes for around 50 bucks which is much less than $1600! Looks like it behaves much better than a real bird and if it gets annoying.. you could remove the batteries!

I only joke here, I would never attempt to remove my parrots' batteries.

Yes, she means a cockaTOO..they have a few birds at the LFS she went with me at. They had it was out of the cage and it was walking around the counter, really I have no intention of buying it..I think with the cats and our dog and everything else, it would be a disaster waiting to happen.

King, thank you for all the info though...it may help to tell her some of those things, IF we do get a bird it would be a smaller one to start with. I do love them and think they are beautiful, just don't think NOW would be a good time for any bird. I'm just glad I didn't have her w/ me today...I went to a different LFS and they had a parrot (not sure the type) but it was out and saying things like "Hello" "Hi there" and laughing when you would laugh...it was cute as heck!

no problem, G.

good luck with any decision you make, i'd be more afraid of the cats rather than the dogs, i have 2 dogs myself..one would just want to lick the bird all day..the other is bit more feral towards them..if she even hears them she gets wideyed.

did you visit that website? hear the screams?..lol..i'm so happy marley would rather talk then scream like that..

King, your so right about the cockatoos. People just don't seem to realize what they are getting into. That goes for all parrots, folks don't realize how demanding/intelligent they are! Cockatoos are especially tough.
When I got my umbrella, Boca, she was about a year old. The people I adopted/ saved her from had gotten her unweaned and had no hand feeding experience. They ended up feeding her mostly watermelon and bananas after 'weaning' her. She was terribly underweight and in really bad physical shape.
They said she refused to eat anything else but I had her on a better diet almost immediately and she did very well. I got the goffins from someone else who couldn't keep her anymore because she was 'annoying'. "She's always rattling her food dish in its holder, it's so loud and obnoxious!" the wife told me. Poor bird had NO toys, she was only trying to find a way to amuse herself.
The two toos' took to each other very well. I had them I'd say, for about 10 or 11 years.
Boca was always very demanding and had a mean temper and a huge scream. She started laying eggs. Then she tried to breed with the other cockatoo.. constantly. Unfortunatly for her, they were both female.
She just seemed very unhappy all of a sudden. I brought her to live with a breeder I know who just happened to have a male umbrella and goffins. They are very happy now, no babies yet but lots of trying! I feel bad/guilty about not being able to make her happy but I think I gave her what she wanted.
